The team rushes to the lab, and the pack of creatures attacks them in the lab. Mike convinces Joyce to sedate Will so he won’t be able to share their location with the monster, and Joyce took him to the cabin of Hopper to overheat him, which will remove the virus from his body.

Bob and Owens stay at the lab, helping others to escape, but lastly, Bob gets killed by creatures’ attack, and Owen gets severely injured while escaping. The group realizes that Mind Flayer wants to spread into the universe, and the real Will instructs them to close the gate of the upside-down world to kill the Mind Flayer. Mind-flayer sends more creatures to attack the group, but Eleven comes for the rescue. Eleven kills most of the creatures with the help of group members and closes the gate of the upside-down world, thinking that Mind Flayer is dead now. To gain respect in the organization, Nancy decides to investigate the matter of rats on her own. She, along with Jonathan interviews Mrs. Driscoll- an old widow who unknowingly captured a rat possessed by Mindflayer. Meanwhile, possessed Billy captures another lifeguard Heather and her parents (one of them is the boss of Nancy and Jonathan) and possess them to make the team.

Dustin invents a particular type of the radio to communicate with his girlfriend. While trying to communicate with Suzie, Dustin intercepts a mysterious message and, with the help of Steve and Robin, decodes the message. The message reveals that Starcourt is the front, used by Russians to receive some shipment and conduct some experiments in the basement.

Meanwhile, some Russian men shoot Alexei for being a traitor, and Joyce, Hopper, and Murray reunite with scoop troop and Griswold family at the mall and make a plan to kill the Mindflayer by closing the gate again. The infection spreads in Eleven’s leg, resulting in Jonathan cut her leg, and using her power, Eleven removes that infected area from her body, after which her power stop working.

Scoop Troop sends a strong signal through Dustin’s Radio to communicate with Hopper, Joyce, and Murray, who have entered in the basement of the Starcourt. Billy makes Eleven unconscious and presents her to the Mindflayer so he can possess her. But Eleven triggers his beach memory, and he sacrifices himself to save Eleven.

Russian men attack Joyce, Hopper, and Murray, and Hopper kills them by pushing them into a machine. While killing them, Hopper doesn’t get enough time to remove himself away from the gate, and he sacrifices himself as Joyce closes the gate to kill the Mindflayer. A massive explosion occurs, which kills Hopper. After three months, Hawkings grieves for the loss of Hopper and the other thirty residents who died in an explosion. Mayor is arrested now, and Eleven lost her powers. She reads Hopper’s letter and learns how much he loved her. Mike and Eleven confess their love for each other. Joyce takes custody of Eleven, and both along with Will and Jonathan leave Hawkins.

Just like other seasons, Season 3 of Stranger Things ends with a cliff-hanger ending where few Russian guards at a secret facility pick up a prisoner to fed to Demogorgon, on which they say “No, Not the American,” leaving people thinking that American Prisoner could be Hopper. Does this mean Hopper is alive? Will Eleven’s power comeback? Will Eleven comeback to the Hawkins? What will happen to the relationship between Mike and Eleven? Is Mindflayer actually Dead?
