Bottu Movie Review

Story :

Arjun (Bharata) is a medical student who is caught cheating in an examination. As time passes, his body is possessed by an evil spirit known as Bottu (Iniya). Because of this, Arjun transforms into a completely different league and starts behaving strangely. Who is this Bottu? Why is the after Arjuna? And how Arjun gets out of this mess is the whole story of the film.

Plus points:

The concept of the film is quite interesting. The way Bottu flashback is showcased is quite impressive. All the scenes showing this episode are well executed.

Bharata is the highlight of the film with its realistic performance. His performance in the climax is superb and brings great depth to the film. The graphics done for the film are really good and have a great impact on the proceedings. Iniya, who played an important role, was good with her performance.

Minus Points:

After starting the film on an impressive note, the flow in the proceedings goes for a toss. Also, irritable comedy doesn’t help matters much. The first fifteen minutes are very slow in the second half.

The director misses out on a major conflict point to elevate the protagonist with bad feelings. The second half goes for a toss except for a flashback, the rest of the proceedings not producing many effects.

Technical aspects:

Director Vadivudaiyan makes a good debut for the film, but he loses completely on the key emotions and the story. He combines several scenes that are irrelevant and do not create an impact on the story. Editing is bad because many comedy scenes could have been avoided. Amrish’s music is just fine but his background score was good. Production values and camerawork was decent enough.

Overall, Bottu is a good script which is the wrong kind of film. The manufacturers had good scope to extend the proceedings but did not use them. Barring racy flashbacks and some good performances, the film does not have the punch required for a horror thriller. See it as you wish.
